Dr. rer. nat. Philip Bangert

Projects

Philip Bangert received his Bachelor in Physics from the Technical University Darmstadt with a minor in space technology. During a stay at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL, he joined the SwissCube Team and worked on the simulation of the attitude determination system.

He concluded his double degree Master at Luleå Technical University and University Würzburg with his Master thesis on the attitude determination system of the University Würzburg Experimental Satellite UWE-3. After launch of the satellite in Nov. 2013 he was responsible for in-orbit experiments with the attitude determination and control system which were ongoing until 2016.

During a Phase A/B1 study he was working for the ESA satellite OPS-SAT which he supported during early system design considerations. In parallel he worked for the Zentrum für Telematik, Würzburg, in the NetSat project as AOCS system engineer.

In 2015 he became appointed Project Manager and Lead System Engineer at the University Würzburg for the UWE-4 mission. He supervised the satellite though all stages from its design, production, integration, test, launch and commissioning. UWE-4 was launched into orbit on December 27th 2018 aboard a Soyuz rocket from Vostochny, Russia.

Philip Bangert received his PhD on the "Magnetic Attitude Control of Miniature Satellites and its Extension towards Orbit Control using an Electric Propulsion System" from the Graduate School for Science and Technology at University Würzburg with distinction.

In 2019 he founded Bangert Aerospace as technology and research consulting in the small satellite industry.
